Inburgering Listening Practice Tips for A2 Dutch

Good listening practice starts before the audio plays: know what information you are listening for.

Key points

  • Read the question first and predict the detail you need.
  • Listen for action words, times, dates, places, and problems.
  • Do not stop thinking if you miss one word.

Before the audio starts

Use the question as a map. If the question asks where someone must go, listen for places. If it asks when, listen for times and dates. This keeps your attention focused.

Details that often matter

  • Time: half negen, kwart over tien, morgen, volgende week.
  • Place: school, gemeente, huisarts, station, werk.
  • Action: bellen, komen, betalen, meenemen, wachten.
  • Problem: ziek, te laat, kapot, gesloten, kwijt.

After answering

Review the audio or transcript if available. Find the words that proved the correct answer. This turns one listening question into vocabulary, pronunciation, and exam strategy practice.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to translate every word while the audio continues.
  • Ignoring the question before listening.
  • Choosing an answer because it contains one familiar word.

Simple practice plan

  1. Read the question before starting audio.
  2. Write the type of detail you need: time, place, person, or action.
  3. Answer, then replay once for the proof words.
  4. Repeat with a different everyday situation.
