A2 Writing Email Examples for Inburgering Practice

A safe A2 email is short, polite, complete, and easy to understand.

Key points

  • Use a greeting, reason, important detail, request, and closing.
  • Simple correct sentences are better than long complicated sentences.
  • Answer every instruction in the writing task.

A safe A2 email pattern

Most A2 writing emails are practical. You may need to cancel an appointment, ask a question, explain a problem, or give information.

  • Beste meneer/mevrouw,
  • Ik schrijf u omdat ...
  • Ik heb een vraag/probleem.
  • Kunt u mij helpen?
  • Met vriendelijke groet,

Example: appointment problem

Beste meneer/mevrouw, Ik kan morgen niet naar de afspraak komen. Mijn kind is ziek. Kan ik een nieuwe afspraak maken? Met vriendelijke groet, Sara.

This answer is not fancy, but it is clear. It explains the problem, gives a reason, and makes a request.

What examiners need to see

Your answer should match the task. If the instruction asks for a date, include a date. If it asks for a reason, include a reason. If it asks for a question, ask the question clearly.

Common mistakes

  • Writing too much and making avoidable grammar mistakes.
  • Forgetting one instruction from the task.
  • Using an informal message when the situation needs a polite email.

Simple practice plan

  1. Write one short email from a prompt.
  2. Check if it has greeting, reason, detail, request, and closing.
  3. Rewrite one sentence more simply.
  4. Practise a different topic next session.
